Stay calm

It’s easy to lose your head when you find yourself locked out, especially as it’s usually at a time when you are busy, and it is highly inconvenient. Having a calm head will help you get on top of things and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Check to see if you have left a window or door open

Emergency locksmith response times are on average 30-60 minutes and although this is fast, you will need to find yourself somewhere safe and dry to wait until they arrive. If you explain your situation to a friendly neighbour, most will be more than happy for you to wait in their house until the locksmith arrives. If this is not an option, then wait in a car if you have access, or failing that a part of your house or garden that is sheltered.

Why you shouldn’t try to gain entry yourself

You may think it’s best or worthwhile to try and gain entry yourself to try and save yourself time and money but, in my experience, this normally causes more issues and costs the homeowner more money.
